Pre Planning
Pre-planning should be one of the first questions you ask a potential DJ. If the pre-planning is lax you can guess that the event will be “cookie cutter” and your Emcee may not take into account your style and vision. Our system includes the following steps:

• The initial consultation. Here we meet with the couple and go over in detail our services. We try to get a feel for your vision for the event and we outline how our services can help you.
• A walk-through of the venue. We never take for granted setups. Whether we’ve been in the venue once, for the first time, or 100 times we always walk through the venue with the clients 1 month prior to your date.
• Our online itinerary system. At your venue walk-through we create the rough draft of your itinerary as it relates to the services we are providing. We then upload this to a document you can manage and edit along with us! This ensures all details are accurate.
• Additional: The above steps are in addition to our staff being available to you by Facebook IM, email, phone or meetings at anytime during the pre-planning process. We love what we do! And talking to couples and helping them bring to life the vision for the day is one of our favorite parts of our job.

Lighting
We love lighting! You can absolutely transform any room into the “Hollywood Vibe” with todays affordable and efficient lighting and lightscaping options. Most of our options are included in the base package with the exception of custom gobo projections (lighting on the dancefloor, walls or ceiling in a custom design) and Pinspotting. Of note, the night before the power went out during the two weddings that were happening inside while our group was partying in the Riverside Pavilion for the luau. No worries though from our end, our power in the pavilion stayed on, but even if it didn’t we ALWAYS come prepared with a backup plan! We can operate our entire system off battery power for up to 1 hr during a power outage. The upset brides/guests the night before at the other two weddings reminded me why we go the extra mile!

Saturday started off with amazing scenery for the Riverside Sanctuary. We provided the music and wireless system for the officiant in addition to a third PA system on the front veranda of the hotel for cocktail hour. The bride chose great songs for the ceremony including: Butterfly Waltz, River flows in you by Yiruma and Portuguese love theme by Craig Armstrong. For after the kiss and the recessional Laura chose bittersweet symphony instrumental. This song really does work great minus the lyrics in the instrumental only version.

After a wonderful sunny cocktail hour the party started. I called this post partying 101 cause this was just that, a course in having an ultra fun memorable wedding. I guarantee Scott and Laura’s friends will remember this event for a long time. The entrances were super high energy, each member of the Bridal Party played their part setting the tone for the evening. The couple is from Hawaii so IZ – Somewhere over the rainbow was the logical choice for first dance. The speeches were fantastic including a fitting tribute to the grandparents who has passed. Perfectly planned and prepared MOH and Best Man added to the fantastic evening.

Once dinner was over it was on. The floor was immediately packed. My DJ assistant Carrie did an excellent job with the music mixing the songs on the couples playlist with classics & top 40 hits. The floor was not empty one time the entire evening. After the first set of dancing we had a limbo contest, followed up by a very special dance competition. (where the all the contestants were given a heads up except one unlucky fella who would end up the butt of a prank by his fellow groomsmen and scott!) As you can see by the photos, (All photos courtesy Nicole Marie Photography!)  this group exemplified the preparation and attention to details that make for a fantastic party. From the dance contest to the song selection they really nailed it. It was our pleasure to be a part of this great evening.

• Are you a professional DJ company?
  Many helpful sites parse this out into a few questions but they all fit under this one umbrella in our opinion. A professional company will have legal contracts, insurance, a physical office and answers all correspondence in a timely matter. A lack of any of the above is a major red flag!

• Will you be the DJ at the Wedding?
  Multi-op companies are big in major cities. What this means is the company has a roster of DJ’s. This isn’t necessarily bad, as long as these DJ’s work exclusively for that company. The key is will you meet YOUR DJ early in the process. At BNW&E we are not a multi-op in terms of having a large roster.  Our Entertainment staff is Ron, Nick and Carrie. For wedding entertainment, manager/owner Ron is the default lead Emcee at all base rate major wedding events with Nick or Carrie Assisting. Nick and Carrie are available to lead upon request and at parties such as sweet 16’s. During the consulting phase you will know right away which personality is available to work your event and you will work with that DJ along with Ron the entire planning process! Ron oversees every event from a consultation and planning standpoint.

• Will you provide a walk-through of the venue in the weeks leading up to the event?
  Yes. Always! Free of charge as part of our base flat rate is a walk-through of the venue with the clients. This is where we begin forming the online itinerary for the event. We’ll talk about lighting the venue and in some cases bring examples and photos of past events in the venue. We do this for every event without exception, whether we’ve been at that particular venue zero times or many times and are very familiar with. (such as Bear Creek)

• How do you keep your music collection up-to-date?
  Professional DJ’s enroll in a legal subscription service! We are digital subscribers to ours. Each Thursday we digitally receive 30-50 new singles in a variety of genres ensuring we’re constantly adding to our library. In the rare case a request comes up at an event we do not have, we can purchase legally “on the fly”. Our DJ’s always travel with a mobile wi-fi connection for access to the internet!

• What does the planning process look like?
  As mentioned above there is always a walk-through of the venue. This is essential. At this walk-through we create together the first draft of the online itinerary. Using a name and password clients login to their itinerary. The client then creates various playlists specifically for their night! Normally these are Cocktail Hour, Dinner and Party time! And of course the “Do not play” list.
